My name is Cody, and I'm the founder of this new knife making venture that is Broken Spoke Bladeworks. I always had the desire to make blades, but until recently, never knew where to even start, but my good friend Dustin invited me over to build a knife, and I immediately caught the bug!
Early on, I had a passion for working on and fixing things, which led me to start as a shop hand at a bicycle shop. I was big into riding and racing bikes so it only seemed appropriate to get into the cycling industry which has been a large part of my life, off and on, for nearly 20 years now and I have become a master in parts of this career field. Because of my background in cycling, and running a high end shop in Denver, I wanted to pay homage to my passion with a name fitting for my part-time venture into knife making, thus the inspiration of the name Broken Spoke Bladeworks!
Another large part of my early adult life was joining and serving in the US Air Force for 6 years as a power generation mechanic. I did one tour to Afghanistan for about 7 months on a small specialized team of engineers which constantly traveled to provide support to anywhere that needed help. We found ourselves traveling to every corner of the country and all the places in-between, making for an unforgettable experience! Our supplies were always very limited, so building the ability to scavenge through the equivalent of junk yards to fabricate items to complete the mission was a must, and through developing those skills and using the skills from all the years working in the cycling industry, creating has been in my blood.
Being able to couple the traits from military service and the cycling industry, along with an artistic inclination has really made knife making the perfect home for keeping my hands busy in a hobby that is unmatched by anything up until this point. There is a long and never ending road of creation ahead, and I'm very excited to be part of this community! Everyone I've met so far has been some of the greatest people, and I thank you all for your hospitality!
